VETERAN RACING WITH A PURPOSE
We Use Motorsports As A Vehicle To Tune The Mind And Soul of Our Transitioning Veterans.
"Changing Gears"
This program is the backbone of the WEG and represents a change in mindsets a Veteran experiences as they change over from a military mindset to a civilian mindset.
CAR BUILD
Engaging returning veterans in a group-based activity while building a high-performance racing car provides opportunities to connect with other veterans, build relationships, and share stories and military experiences. Veterans are mentored by motorsports industry experts throughout the performance build. The build is documented through a video blog that will introduce each WEG student Veteran and their background and story. They will also provide opportunities for our industry partners to educate and train the Veterans on the installation and operation of their product being installed on the car.
PERFORMANCE TEAM
After completing the build the WEG will train in the operations of competing for the race car at our local NASCAR sanction race track, Colorado National Speedway. The WEG will utilize professional drivers that are selected by the WEG board of directors to help bring the team up to speed with race-day operations and competitions.
STEM, LEAN MANUFACTURING/SIX SIGMA
Building and completing a performance race car provides opportunities to introduce the WEG Veterans to STEM, LEAN, and Six Sigma concepts. Using a combination of classroom education and hands-on experiential learning, the WEG addresses such topics as communication, role responsibility, creative thinking, and work performance through the day-to-day operations of a semiprofessional racing program.
WORK-STUDY
The WEG can assist the Student Veterans by actively pursuing Internships and scholarships to assist Veterans in their course of study to provide real-world experience in programs such as Business, Marketing, Graphic Design, Engineering, Auto Mechanics, and Welding disciplines.
PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT
Student Veterans that enter their second year in the program may qualify to apply for part-time employment for the WEG directly to help support the mission and gain valuable work experience.
"Thinking Inside The Pit Box"
Is a racing metaphor that suggests that we need to address personal issues in order to be successful in reaching personal and professional goals. Civilian life presents different challenges for returning Veterans to overcome. This program addresses the Student Veterans' mental, physical and financial wellness in order to help each Veteran obtain their goals.
